Discussing and speculating algorithms for community-building in an exploratory workshop at WUD Rome 2020

We often see how algorithms are being used to profile us in this age of over-personalization, but how can we shift the way we use algorithms to bring about a sense of community and the collective group? What if it can be used to make a “person” out of a group? What are some fun ways that data can be used for things like team bonding? Can we gamify algorithms?

In this 1.5 hour workshop, participants were introduced to how algorithms are used to provide product personalization and given a basic overview of how recommender systems work. We discussed how…

An assessment of no/low-code tools for the machine learning process by their complexity & coverage

Together with Benjamin Flader and Harits Abdurrohman, we did a little AI x Design Community collaborative session to evaluate the state of No-code and Low-code ML tools. This article documents our process, the metrics that we assessed the tools on, and insights we were able to draw from our assessment.

The process of decluttering tools

Everything started with a very long list of no-code tools. We filtered out the ones that we believed were not relevant — for example, if it was a data analytics tool rather than a machine learning tool. Initially, although our focus was on no-code tools, but we also included low-code…

➰AIxDesign Monthly Newsletter, September 2020

Every month we’ll be sending out a curated list of articles and resources on a specific theme within the AI x Design landscape, as well as highlight updates and works from members of the community. Subscribe to receive our monthly newsletter and stay up in the loop with our community!

This month we look into how data practices can complement user research and vice versa. By making the most of quantitative and qualitative methods we can reach a new level of understanding about the people we’re serving. While data science can point out the ‘what’, user research can feed our…

➰AIxDesign Monthly Newsletter, July 2020

Every month we send out a curated list of articles and resources on a specific theme within the AI x Design landscape, as well as highlight updates and works from members of the community. Subscribe to receive our monthly newsletter and stay up in the loop with our community!

In this newsletter, we will be exploring the intersection of AI and Service Design — how each domain influences one another and how they can benefit from one another, along with managing expectations when setting up AI projects.

At the intersection of AI and Service Design…
